Arsenal could use massive budget to land four more deals with first signing ‘very close’
Arsenal are set for a big summer at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta in order to compete with Manchester City at the top of the table.
Arsenal are set to back Mikel Arteta with a huge transfer warchest this summer as they look to continue battling Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. The Spaniard is set to be able to spend £150million in the transfer window and could be bolstered by further sales, with as many as four potential incomings.
The Independent have claimed that after securing Champions League football next season, Arteta will be backed this summer to the tune of £150m. Further investment could come after sales from the likes of Kieran Tierney, Folarin Balogun, Nuno Tavares and Nicolas Pepe.
Arteta will likely hope to bolster the spine of the team, having struggled when the likes of William Saliba and Thomas Partey have missed out through injuries this season, as additions at centre-back, midfield, out wide and up front could be forthcoming while Spanish outlet AS says that Arsenal are already close to signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Here, Express Sport looks at four players that could be set for moves to the Emirates this summer.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been linked with a move across London after Arsenal struggles recently, having lost both Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu through injury. The Daily Mail have claimed that the Gunners are considering a bid for Guehi, who has impressed since leaving Chelsea for Palace.
The England international would provide ably cover for both Saliba and Gabriel, as the likes of Rob Holding and Jakub Kiwior have been unable to provide the same stable foundation as Arteta’s preferred defensive pair. While Tottenham also have a reported interest in Guehi and may be able to offer him more first-team football.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of midfield options including Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, but Sociedad star Zubimendi has recently emerged as a strong candidate and Spanish outlets have claimed that he is close to accepting a move to north London.
If the Gunners do pay his £52.5million release clause it would represent a sizable chunk of the summer budget, as he could challenge Granit Xhaka for his role in the starting XI.
Arsenal made several attempts to land Raphinha last summer before he opted to leave Leeds for Barcelona instead, though there is a chance that the Brazilian could be back on the market. With the La Liga giants hoping to bring Lionel Messi back to the Nou Camp, they reportedly need to offload several players to comply financially – one of which could be Raphinha.
He would likely compete with the front three behind Gabriel Jesus, more often than not Bukayo Saka but Arsenal hero Ian Wright has warned Arteta that Saka needs to be rested more often, Raphinha would be the perfect option to ensure that there would be minimal drop-off without Saka.
With the futures of Balogun and Eddie Nketiah in question over a lack of first-team opportunities, another striker could yet join Arsenal to compete with Gabriel Jesus. Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta is one of the hottest prospects on the market and a summer move could represent a coup for the Gunners.
However, they will likely face interest from rivals such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich and could end up needing to go beyond £150m if he alongside Guehi, Raphinha and Zubimendi are signed this summer.
