Asensio’s Good Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Asensio had a decent campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium recently as he helped the Madrid giants do the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League double earlier this summer. The Spaniard registered 12 goals and two assists in 42 appearances for Los Blancos last season across all fronts.
The 26-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga football. He even took care of the ball well when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.7% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
At the moment, Asensio has just got a year left to run in his Real Madrid contract. Hence, it is no surprise that Arsenal are eyeing a move for him on a cut-price deal this month.
Is Asensio A Good Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Asensio is a decent playmaker on the attacking end of the pitch as he has got the eye to unlock the opponent’s defence with a killer pass. He can even complete a few promising dribbles in the opponent’s half and can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. Asensio usually operates as a right-sided wide player but can even fill in as a left-winger or play in the number ten position if needed.
The Spanish talent hardly gives away the ball cheaply but needs to ensure regular first-team starts if he wants to establish himself as one of the best attackers in Europe.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has got the luxury to offer him regular game time in English football. He could even serve as a good back-up to Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka at the North London club over the next few years.
Asensio has got the skillset and winning mindset to be a success story at the Emirates Stadium if Arteta can devise a way to win the race for his services. At 26, the Spanish sensation is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Gunners to pursue during this summer transfer period.
