Chelsea face stiff competition for this Serie A ace
In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Chelsea are locked in a three-way battle for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. It has been mentioned that the Blues could face competition from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the Slovak defensive ace next year.
Skriniar’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
The 27-year-old has made a decent start to this campaign as he has put in a few dominant displays for Inter on the defensive end of the field. Skriniar has been involved in nine matches for the Milan giants this season, securing 789 minutes of game time across all competitions.
The Slovakia international has been a rock at the back based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game in Serie A. He was even excellent when distributing possession from inside his half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 92% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Skriniar’s current deal with the Milan club is set to expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, Chelsea have every reason to be optimistic about their chances of landing the talented defender on a cut-price deal this January.
Is Skriniar A Dream Option For Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter?
Skriniar is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side inside his half. He usually clears his lines when at risk of being caught out at the back and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The Slovak sensation can use his strong 1.88m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Someone of Skriniar’s quality will no doubt be a massive signing for Chelsea as he will give Graham Potter more options on the defensive third of the pitch.
We can expect the Inter Milan star to inject more bite and steel into the West London club‘s backline. He might even help the Blues compete with Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, Skriniar will be a dream option for the Blues to consider when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year. At 27, the Serie A powerhouse is playing at his peak and would make an instant impact at Stamford Bridge as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
