Chelsea in pole position to sign this Barcelona ace

In a recent print edition, AS mentioned that Chelsea are in pole position to land Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer. It has been mentioned that the Blues are well-placed to secure the signature of the Gabon international during this summer transfer period.

Aubameyang’s Impressive Record At The Nou Camp

Aubameyang has enjoyed a decent spell at Catalonia over the past eight months since joining from Arsenal back in January. The Gabon sensation found the back of the net on 13 occasions and picked up one assist in 24 appearances for Barca so far across all competitions.

The 33-year-old led the line well for Barca for averaging 2.2 shots and 0.5 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga football. He even linked up play relatively well in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 75.5% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

Aubameyang is currently not a guaranteed starter at the Nou Camp following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski earlier this summer. Hence, a switch to Chelsea makes sense for the player before the end of this summer transfer window as such a move will give him a chance to play regularly at the top level.

What Will Aubameyang Bring To Chelsea?

Aubameyang remains a natural goal-scorer in the final third and is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He can still create some decent openings for others around him but has lost a yard of pace from his game.

The Gabon international could prove to be a decent, short-term signing for the Blues this month. We can expect Aubameyang to bring more goals to Thomas Tuchel‘s frontline.

...

The Barcelona striker has got the experience and winning mindset to help the West London club challenge for some major trophies over the next couple of years.

Chelsea are in dire need of a new frontman following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner recently. Thus, Aubameyang could prove to be a good replacement for them as he won’t take any time settling into life in Premier League football where the veteran forward previously had a good spell with Arsenal.

...

At 33, the Barca talent might still have a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Therefore, Tuchel should try everything in his power to lure him to Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer deadline.
