Chelsea wanted to recruit this Tottenham winger
In a recent edition of the Here We Go podcast (starting from 03.44), renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Chelsea wanted to recruit Tottenham Hotspur winger Richarlison earlier this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues were eager to sign the Brazilian wide player before he sealed a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
Richarlison’s Impressive Start To His Tottenham Career
Richarlison has made a good start to his career at the North London club as he has already put in a couple of impressive performances for them so far. The Brazilian talent has picked up a couple of assists in five matches for Tottenham this season in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even taken care of the ball relatively well after making 76.2% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Go Back In For Richarlison Next Summer?
Richarlison usually works hard to press the opposition down but can sometimes be a bit reckless with his tackles. He can create space for himself to get a few shots in on target and has got the vision to engineer some inviting chances in the final third. Richarlison is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a winger on either flank if his manager asks him to do so.
The Brazilian sensation can even make a few driving runs with the ball but needs to find a way to be more clinical in front of the opposition goal. The Blues can definitely use someone of Richarlison’s skillset to bolster their attack next year.
We can expect the South American talent to add more goals and creativity to Chelsea‘s frontline and increase competition for places within their match-day squad. He could even serve as a good replacement for Christian Pulisic, who has struggled to be productive for the West London club over the past couple of seasons.
If Richarlison goes on to have a successful season at Spurs, Chelsea would be wise to go back in for him during the January transfer window or at the end of this campaign. At 25, he will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him a good choice for the Stamford Bridge outfit to consider next year.
