Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel explains his “unhappiness” despite making four significant first-team acquisitions.

Prior to Chelsea’s away Premier League match against Everton, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand stated that Thomas Tuchel may be experiencing behind-the-scenes problems.

Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Gabriel Slonina were all signed by the Blues this summer, but the German manager hasn’t looked happy during preseason.

If his team was prepared to start the new season, Tuchel was questioned following his team’s 4-0 preseason loss to Arsenal in Florida.

...

I’m afraid I can’t promise it,” Tuchel said. “I witnessed a squad today in Arsenal that was intellectually and physically devoted to a way of playing, to a point of weariness, that we could not equal.

We lacked a level of mental dedication as well because many of our players are considering leaving and exploring their options. We have lost players, and I believe that is currently clear.

“We urgently needed quality players, and there were a ton of great players available. Despite the fact that we have two excellent players, we are not as competitive as we should be, as we could regrettably witness today.

At the time, Chelsea had just added Sterling and Koulibaly, but Ferdinand thinks there may have been internal strife at the team that contributed to Tuchel’s discontent.

According to Ferdinand, “I don’t care about results in pre-season; it was more about the aftermath.”

Chelsea's manager Thomas Tuchel explains his "unhappiness" despite making four significant first-team acquisitions.

“He seems uncomfortable and displeased, therefore there must be some things going on behind the scenes that we aren’t aware of yet.

We may be unaware of some players who are striving for a move behind the scenes.

...

“He brought in Sterling, who will be a fantastic addition, but if they lose the guys they’re threatening to lose.

Chelsea and Tottenham might compete for the same player.

Both teams have been in a battle to compete for the services of Inter Milan center-back Milan Skriniar this summer as they try to bolster their rosters before the transfer window ends this month.

Although [Antonio] Rudiger is a huge loss, I believe Koulibaly will be a wonderful addition coming season. He has expertise. However, I believe they need more once more, and although I believe he is well aware of this, it’s not happening quickly enough for them. I’d be concerned for them if there was no further activity in the window.

Marc Cucurella, a defender for Brighton, is being pursued by Chelsea in order to increase their options at the back, but Graham Potter’s organization has openly denied any deal having been reached. On Wednesday night, the official Brighton Twitter account stated that “no agreement has been made with any club to sell Marc Cucurella, contrary to erroneous rumours from various media sites this evening.”

The Spaniard, who has since been ordered to practice alone before the Seagulls’ away season opener against Manchester United, was said to have cost £52.5 million, according to rumors.
