European giants exploring move for Arsenal chief Edu

There is interest in Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar from ‘two or three’ big European clubs, according to reports.

The 44-year-old returned to Arsenal in 2019 to take up the role, after playing for the Gunners from 2001-05, winning two Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

It has not been unmitigated success for Edu since returning to north London, but things are going brilliantly for him and the club now, with Mikel Arteta’s side sitting top of the Premier League table after 10 games, winning nine of them.

The signing of Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian side Ituano has proved an inspired bit of business, while the arrivals of players such as Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba and Aaron Ramsdale are all proving to be shrewd signings.

The reputation of Arteta is swiftly improving, as is that of Edu, who is reportedly starting to attract a lot of attention across the continent.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that ‘two or three clubs’ are discussing Edu internally and exploring the possibility of tempting him away from Arsenal, impressed with his vision, ambition and ideas.

However, Arsenal fans will be pleased that the report also states that Edu remains entirely focussed on his current club and is actively working on new signings and contract extensions at the moment.

No talks over a move for Edu have been instigated by any other club, not has the Brazilian made any hint of wanting to leave.

Arsenal are not in Premier League action this week, but take on PSV at the Emirates in the Europa League on Thursday night, looking to keep up their 100 per cent record in that competition after winning their first three group stage matches.
