Everton have missed the chance to sign this talent
In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, transfer insider Dean Jones revealed that Everton have missed out on the chance to sign Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus. Jones said,
“Even throughout the links in the summer, I was told that Ajax just didn’t want to lose him (Kudus). Now we’re seeing why. It was a great performance from him against Rangers and, at this rate, there is even less chance now of Wolves or Everton signing him than there was at the end of the last window.”
Kudus’ Decent Season At Johan Cruijff ArenA
Kudus is having another excellent campaign at the Amsterdam club as he has already produced a few impressive displays at the heart of their midfield. The 22-year-old has scored five times and grabbed one assist in eight matches for the Dutch club this season across all competitions.
The Accra-born talent has seen most of his playing opportunities come off the bench but performed well to average 1.0 shots and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 91.8% in the Dutch top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with Ajax is set to expire in the summer of 2025, so the Toffees would find it difficult to acquire his services on the cheap if they decide to move in for him in January.
Should Everton Boss Frank Lampard Go Back For Kudus In January?
Kudus is a good playmaker in the final third as he has got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can make a few dangerous runs towards the opponent’s penalty box. Kudus is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a centre-forward if needed.
Someone of Kudus’ skillset would have been a terrific acquisition for Everton earlier this year. He would have added a lot of goals and creativity to Frank Lampard’s attack at Goodison Park.
However, now that the Toffees have missed out on him, they could find it difficult to lure the player to Merseyside as other top clubs might register their interest in him this winter or at the end of this campaign.
Still, Lampard would be wise to go back in for Kudus as he is a quality midfielder who has what it takes to help the Merseyside club secure a top-half finish in the Premier League.
