In a recent interview with Manchester Evening News, Manchester City defender John Stones revealed that he wants to stay for many more years with the Manchester club. Stones said,
“It is hard to think about what’s gone on because you’re always on the move, you’re always thinking about what comes next and you want more and to keep improving.
“You don’t really get time to look at what’s happened or spend much time thinking about it because the next thing is in front of you.
“Seven years is something I’m extremely proud of, fighting at the top for all that time and I hope that can continue for many more years.
“It’s somewhere I love – I love the people, I love the club and I think that’s what makes going in every day and working and trying to be successful that more pleasing and satisfying because of how good everyone has been to me there and continues to be.”
Stones’ Impressive Season At Manchester So Far
Stones is having a decent campaign with Man City as he has already put in some impressive displays at the heart of Pep Guardiola’s defence. The English defensive ace has picked up two assists in five appearances for the reigning champions of the Premier League this season.
The 28-year-old has done well to average 0.8 tackles and 1.2 clearances per 90 minutes in the English top flight. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 97.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Offer Stones A New Contract?
Stones can be a solid defender at the back when he is playing with confidence on the field. He is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions on the defensive third of the pitch.
The English talent usually clears his lines when in danger of being caught out at the back and has got the pace to make some recovering runs inside his half. Furthermore, he is a tidy passer of the ball as well which has made him an important member of Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s match-day squad.
At the moment, Stones is getting regular playing time at the Etihad Stadium and seems to be getting better with each season. Therefore, the Mancunian giants should think about offering him a new contract so that they can keep hold of him for the long run.
At 28, Stones is entering his prime and could give his best years to Man City in the coming seasons.
