Manchester United receive huge injury boost as sensational star makes squad ahead of Newcastle United cup final clash
Marcus Rashford makes the squad ahead of cup final clash with Newcastle united
Marcus Rashford’s appearance as he traveled to London in advance of the Carabao Cup final appears to have given Manchester United a lift.
The talented forward left the field during the final minutes of Thursday’s historic Europa League victory over Barca, raising concerns that he would miss the Newcastle match at Wembley.
After a historic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, Rashford, who has scored 27 goals in 42 appearances for club and country this season, shared a cryptic tweet that seemed to indicate he was concerned about his fitness.
At his pre-game news conference on Friday, Erik ten Hag addressed the health of his star player, saying: “I don’t know, players now are coming in, we have to do medical investigations.”
We did yesterday, but because it happened so shortly after the game, we need to wait for a definitive diagnosis. We must endure.’
Anthony Martial won’t be available, so United will almost definitely have to rely on Wout Weghorst, who joined on loan in January but has only scored one goal.
By defeating Newcastle, United will attempt to end a six-year trophy drought. Fullback Luke Shaw is optimistic that Ten Hag will revive Old Trafford’s glory days.
Long-serving United left-back told the PA news agency, “I believe there’s a lot more enjoyment now back in around the place – not just on the pitch but off it.”
“The staff near the practice field seems much happier and in a much better place, and I believe it shows on the field,” the player said.
I believe there is still much work to be done, but I believe the signs at this time are excellent indicators that we are moving in the correct direction.
Naturally, we are still in four contests and a significant final that is important to us. There is a great deal of happiness and it seems like we are on the right track. The ‘feel-good’ element is returning, and I believe that’s all we really need to concentrate on.
