Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal handed huge boost with Leicester star a doubt for clash amid injury concern

James Maddison a doubt for Leicester City clash with Arsenal

Leicester City may be without star player James Maddison for Saturday’s Premier League match against Arsenal.

The Gunners travel to the King Power Stadium with the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points before Manchester City’s evening match against Bournemouth.

Though Arsenal won the reverse fixture 4-2 in August, this match should be much closer given Leicester’s recent good form, which has seen them win three of their last four games.

Mikel Arteta’s men have only won one of their last five games, but they showed great spirit in their most recent game, coming from behind to defeat Aston Villa.

However, Leicester have suffered a major setback ahead of the game, with Brendan Rodgers revealing that attacking midfielder James Maddison is now a doubt.

James Maddison went off injured Vs West Ham United.

‘We’re starting to get a lot of players back,’ the Foxes manager said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, while also confirming the absences of Jonny Evans and Ryan Bertrand.

‘We’ll have to see how James Maddison is. He’s still nursing a knee injury, so we’ll have to assess that after training tomorrow.’

Maddison suffered a knee injury shortly before the season began in December, keeping him out for nearly a month.

He returned to help Leicester’s recent run of form, scoring in wins over Villa and Tottenham and playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United last Sunday.

The 26-year-old has been arguably his club’s best player this season, with nine goals and five assists in the league.

Arsenal were linked with signing him in the past before opting for Martin Odegaard, but with his contract expiring in 18 months, he has been linked with another move away, this time to Newcastle.
