Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spotted in Italy playing a six-a-side friendly game amid Chelsea decision
As his Chelsea exile continues, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been spotted playing in an Italian friendly.
The 33-year-old has not played for Chelsea since coming on as a late substitute in a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on January 21.
Aubameyang has not been named to Chelsea’s last four matchday squads, as Graham Potter’s side continues to struggle.
Aubameyang also suffered the humiliation of being dropped from Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the knockout stage of the competition, a decision which is said to have left him ‘shocked’.
Since being left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad, the former Arsenal striker has been spending time in Italy with his family, and footage released on Monday evening showed him participating in a friendly kickaround with his brother Willy.
Aubameyang was seen wearing his Chelsea shirt and shorts in a series of Instagram clips as his team appeared to dominate the game.
Aubameyang has struggled since joining Chelsea from Barcelona last summer, scoring only three goals in 17 appearances.
Los Angeles FC have expressed interest in signing Aubameyang on loan until the end of the season, but the striker prefers to compete for a starting spot at Chelsea.
When asked about Aubameyang’s future at Chelsea last week, Potter insisted that the striker still has a future at the club.
‘Of course, Pierre is in our squad; he’s still an important player for us; he’s worked hard; he understands the situation,’ Potter said.
‘Nothing is set in stone; his attitude has been excellent. We’ll make an evaluation as we go.’
