West Ham United summer transfer business

West Ham United decided to spend a lot of money during the recently concluded summer transfer window as they looked to strengthen their squad for this Premier League campaign. The Hammers made some notable acquisitions in the form of Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Emerson and Thilo Kehrer.

West Ham’s Major Summer Signings Reviewed

Lucas Paqueta

The Brazilian attacker arrived from Olympique Lyonnais in a whopping £38.66m deal recently. Paqueta has already shown flashes of what he is capable of during his short stay at West Ham. If David Moyes can get the best out of him, he could be a decent signing for them in the future.

Gianluca Scamacca

West Ham were in dire need of a new forward last season. Moyes decided to address that issue by recruiting Scamacca for £32.40m from Sassuolo this summer. He is good enough to rival Michail Antonio for a regular starting place at the London Stadium. If the Italian can adapt to the Premier League well, he could turn out to be a good acquisition for West Ham despite his hefty price tag.

Nayef Aguerd

The Hammers focused on strengthening their defence by signing Aguerd from Stade Rennes for £31.50m in the off-season. He is capable of making a real impact at the East London club when he returns from his injury. However, the fee West Ham paid for the defender is definitely a bit on the higher side during this summer transfer period.

Maxwel Cornet

Cornet arrived from Burnley in a deal believed to be around £18.63m. He will give Moyes more options in the final third and could help West Ham cope well in Europe. Thus, West Ham have done well to bag him for such a fee this summer.

Emerson

The London outfit paid Chelsea £13.86m to sign Emerson. He is an experienced left-back who could prove himself to be a capable member of Moyes’ squad this season.

Thilo Kehrer

The £10.80m-signing from Paris Saint-Germain has already made a real impact at the London Stadium. He has definitely strengthened West Ham’s backline and seems like a shrewd buy by the London club in the off-season.

West Ham have also signed Flynn Downes from Swansea City and Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

West Ham United’s Notable Summer Exits

Issa Diop – Fulham for £16.02m

Andriy Yarmolenko – Al-Ain FC on a free transfer

Ryan Fredericks – Bournemouth on a free transfer

Mark Noble – Retired

Arthur Masuaku – Besiktas on loan

Did West Ham United Boss David Moyes Make The Right Calls With Regards To His Transfer Dealings?

Moyes has focused mostly on improving his frontline with the signings of Scamacca, Paqueta and Cornet. There are some question marks over Aguerd and what he would bring after he returns from his injury but Kehrer already seems like a great acquisition for them.
